Introduction
Fishers Green complex, including historically one of the most famous stretches of river in the whole of England The River Lea, was the basis for the early chapters in the famous book The Compleat Angler by Izaak Walton.
The complex consists of the Old River Lea, The Flood Relief Channel, Seventy Acre Lake, Hooks Marsh, part of Holyfield (Langridge) Lake and the top of Cornmill Stream.
The Fishery boasts many species of fish, Barbel to 16lbs, Chub to 9lbs 3oz, Roach to 1lb 8oz, Dace to 10oz, Perch to 3lbs 8oz, Bream to 11lbs+, Tench to 10lbs+, Trout to 3lbs+, Carp to 30lbs+, massive Gudgeon and not forgetting the good old Ruffe the first fish ever caught by many of the older breed of angler.
The Consortium was formed to bid for the fishing rights to the waters that had been run by Cemex for several years (Just about the largest angling operation in England).
Fishers Green won the rights and took over the fishery on the 16th June 2010. Over the past few years there hasn’t been much investment into the upkeep of these waters and as a result the stocks were low and the fishing difficult. Only the most determined seemed to succeed. We have recently started to improve both the stocks and the swims. Two stockings of Barbel have taken place along with substantial numbers of silver fish.
A lot of work has been carried out on the river to open up the swims to allow light in thus improving the weed growth giving fish both cover and spawning beds. With the help of the Lea Valley Regional Parks Fishery Team many swims have been cleared to allow the traditional skill of trotting for Roach, Dace Barbel and Chub. We have also improved bailiffing to the waters sufficiently to ensure a safer environment for our members.

A word of warning. Any person found to be poaching, fishing illegally, disregarding our rules, interfering with the parks flora and fauna may face disciplinary action and/or be banned from all waters in the Lee Valley Parks area.
